Many students — even many who normally like to read — find that, when reading college texts, they have trouble remembering what they have read, making meaningful connections between texts and lectures, or even maintaining focus during reading. They may come to see their reading assignments as depressing reminders of how difficult their courses are rather than as tools that will help them learn.

The strategies students learn in this session will help them think strategically about how and when to use their texts to get the most out of their classes. Previous participation in the CLC’s “Time Management for Academic Success” session and familiarity with SQ3R or similar active reading techniques will be helpful but are not necessary in order to benefit from this session.
