Spartan International Program (SIP)
Developed by Carlos Fuentes, SIP is an exciting forum that draws student leaders and their respective student organizations together.
The spirit and soul of this program is to have students internalize and operationalize global competencies and global citizenship. In so doing, they will be knowledgeable about sharing with their student groups and organizations the value of being globally competent and of being a citizen of the world.
Many of the groups represented by SIP participants rarely, if ever, interact with each other. The vision for creating a cadre of student change agents who are trained, motivated, and passionate about all-things-global is powerful. Students talk to students in a way we, as staff, cannot.
Purpose
Succinctly, the Program purpose is to enhance students’ global competencies and global citizenship. It is hoped that the students who participate in the SIP will first develop their own competencies and second, influence the development of competencies in their peers.
Participants are either “formal” or “informal” leaders of groups, but will nonetheless have strong potential to influence students in the future. A foundation for accomplishing the development of competencies is through affecting the interaction patterns of students, and to address the perceptions and stereotypes that students may have of groups who are different from themselves.
HERE is a list of this year’s SIP participants.
